Basic Methods and Forms of Tuition and Education. Ways of Students’ Assessment
Process of education within the faculty specialties grounds on state standards for education. Proceeding from these standards, the faculty forms working plans and educational programs in compulsory and optional courses, programs for pedagogic and practical training, etc. Author’s textbooks, manuscripts and manuals are offered to successfully assimilate knowledge, as well as instructive methodical materials for seminar, field and laboratory work. Professors compose individual educational and research tasks, monitoring tasks for seminar, practical and laboratory preparation, control testing work in geographical disciplines, methodical materials for independent assimilation of referent literature, as well as for preparation of course, bachelor, diploma and master theses. Two intermediate attestations in the form of control works in all disciplines are conducted each semester (5-6 and 11-12 academic weeks). Oral and written examinations, alongside with pedagogic and practical training defense, qualification work defense serve as a final result of students’ achievements. Basic forms of tuition are lectures, seminars, colloquiums, laboratory and fieldwork.
Beginning from 1 September 2001, a specialized academic council K 76.051.04 is founded. The council scrutinizes candidate theses in specialties 11.00.02 – economic and social geography, and 11.00.11 – constructive geography and rational utilization of natural resources. During the work of the council, 13 candidate theses of geographers-graduates from Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk and Ternopil universities were successfully defended.
51 faculty tutors are now teaching nearly 1250 students of daytime, part-time and external forms of education. 20 post-graduate students, competitors and those seeking to become doctors are now being taught to gain a higher qualification in 4 scientific specialties. Active co-operation with leading scientific and educational centers in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Simpheropol and Ternopil is in process, as well as international scientific and educational links with Saskatchewan (Canada), Lock-Haven (USA), Vienna (Austria), Suceava (Rumania), Rzeszow and Silezian (Poland), Beltsy (Moldova) universities are maintained.
